An Open Letter to YNPNdc

Dear YNPNdc members and friends,

Happy November! I hope you’re enjoying the fall weather that is finally upon us here in Greater Washington. Over the past year, YNPNdc has undergone several significant changes, and I’m writing today to share with you an update on what we’ve been doing, where we are now, and what you can expect from us in the coming months.

As you may know, YNPNdc decided to take a step back from our major programs and activities starting in summer 2015. Although our programs and events were running successfully, we also faced organizational challenges like high volunteer turnover and burnout. We needed to invest more time and resources on developing our infrastructure in order to best serve you - our members. The YNPNdc board of directors recognized that we had a unique opportunity to do that, even though it required taking a break from our regular events and programs. From August 2015-July 2016, the YNPNdc board rethought the organization’s vision and mission, created a new organizational structure, and explored what a deeper relationship with the YNPN National Network might look like.

In the meantime, several fantastic volunteers helped us to maintain a few programs, including our Mentoring Program and the event series, Elevate Your Career, in partnership with The Foundation Center.

In August 2016, we welcomed a new board of directors (meet them here), who have been hard at work putting the new mission and structure in place, and reflecting on the right next steps to ‘relaunch’ YNPNdc. We also formalized our relationship with YNPN National, becoming an affiliate member of the national network, which will allow us to leverage our chapter’s strengths and the YNPN National platform to increase the resources and opportunities that we can provide to you.

We are still dedicated to strengthening the Greater Washington nonprofit sector by activating, engaging, and championing emerging nonprofit professionals and connecting you with resources, ideas, and each other.

While we don’t have all the answers yet, we are excited about the opportunities that lay ahead of YNPNdc. I look forward to sharing more updates with you in the coming months about YNPNdc’s history and journey; what our affiliation with YNPN National means for you; who the new YNPNdc board members are; and how you can play a role in shaping our next steps.

Whether you’re brand new to YNPNdc, have been a member for a few years, or are an ‘alumni’ of our events or volunteer team, I would love to hear any questions or comments that you have about this update. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at

Warm regards,

Marie LeBlanc
YNPNdc Board Chair
